A huge crackdown on criminals in Manipur by the Indian Army and paramilitary forces has resulted in the capture of at least 25 people as well as a stash of weapons, ammo, and grenades. Following recent shooting and altercations that took place in and around the Imphal valley, operations were conducted across the conflict-torn state.

A spokeswoman for the defence forces said that numerous individuals were detained after being discovered in possession of weapons and other supplies conducive to conflict. The Army was able to capture 22 criminals in Imphal East, notably in Sansabi, Gwaltabi, Shabunkhol, and Khunao. Five 12-bore double barrel rifles, three single barrel rifles, one double-bore country-made weapon, and one muzzle-loaded weapon were among the found goods.

A mobile check station in Imphal city stopped a vehicle carrying three people on Sunday night in a separate incident. The miscreants tried to leave when they sensed problems, but the observant ground forces quickly caught them. Security personnel searched the area and found an INSAS Rifle with a magazine, 60 rounds of 5.56mm ammo, a Chinese hand grenade, and an explosive device.

25 criminals in all were apprehended during the raids and afterwards turned over to the Manipur Police, along with the confiscated firearms and ammunition.
