In the second session of the second Test match at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies recovered by taking four wickets as the Indian innings dragged on. West Indies controlled a session for the first time in the series as India reached 182/4 at tea with Virat Kohli (18*) in the middle and lost Ajinkya Rahane at the end of the session.
A unique souvenir was given to the leaders of both India and West Indies before the game by cricketing icon Brian Lara to honor the 100th Test between the two sides.
The curator made the decision to remove all of the grass from Queen’s Park Oval, despite the fact that the turning pitch in Dominica suited India very well and a more lively track was anticipated there.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the century from the previous game, was brought down for 57 by West Indies’ first successful bowler, Jason Holder. After lunch, he didn’t simply add 5 runs to his total.
Shubman Gill, who was ranked third, had another disastrous performance and was demoted for 10 by Kemar Roach. Despite hitting a few boundaries, the flashy batsman ultimately edged the ball to Joshua Da Silva. Gill was batting at position three for the second time in a Test match, and it hasn’t gone well for him so yet.
During his 80-run innings, captain Rohit Sharma also shown strength, but he fell short of a well-deserved century and was trapped by Jomel Warrican. The daring opener faced 143 balls and smashed 9 fours and a few sixes to keep India’s scoreboard ticking along.
He and Jaiswal had a 139-run first wicket partnership to lay the groundwork for a large total, but the three wickets in the second session enabled the hosts to retake the lead in the game.
Like in the first Test, Kohli, who is participating in his 500th international game, got off to a sluggish start and took his time. He smashed a boundary on the 21st ball he faced to get his first run. The 34-year-old batsman seemed reliable after and finished Tea on 18 in 44 balls.
Ajinkya Rahane, who was batting alongside Kohli and batted a little more carefully, lost his wicket to Shannon Gabriel at the start of tea. He only scored 8 runs.
