Jammu and Kashmir were spared a big tragedy after a terrorist associate was captured and a large number of improvised explosive devices (IED) were found, police said on Sunday. Following the disclosure by the terror associate, named Ishfaq Ahmed Wani, a resident of Arigam in the Pulwama area, police were able to find about 5–6 kg of IED. The Army believes that the incident will likely result in the injury of a second terrorist. As a huge search effort reached its third day on Sunday, officials told PTI that no new contact has been made since then with militants still present in the forested Kandi area.

Heavy rains were seen in the area Saturday evening, but the operation is still ongoing, and all escape routes are blocked, according to a senior security officer. During his visit to the 25 Infantry Division’s headquarters in Rajouri on Saturday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh evaluated the operational readiness of the Indian Army and the security situation along the Line of Control. Jammu and Kashmir L-G Manoj Sinha and Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande accompanied Singh. The minister offered condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and praised the troops for their bravery and dedication in the face of adversity. According to Singh, the “nation feels secure due to the eternal vigil and sacrifices by Army in hard and difficult areas.”
