According to a Government Railway Police officer, a 20-year-old guy was detained on Friday for allegedly sexually harassing a lady aboard a local train.
He said that 50 hours after the First Information Report was filed, the arrest was conducted using intensive technological monitoring.
The defendant lives in Virar’s Sant Rohidas Nagar.
The event happened on the evening of June 23 when the lady was riding in a women’s compartment from Malad to Churchgate.
The lady said in her complaint submitted on Wednesday that an unidentified male entered the compartment at Mumbai Central Station and began making inappropriate gestures and offensive words against her.
He leapt off the moving train as it approached Grant Road station as she began yelling for assistance.
According to senior inspector Pravin Bhagat, who oversaw the investigation, the GRP established four teams in order to find and capture the offender.
According to Bhagat, CCTV video showed the guy boarding another train traveling the other way after exiting the women’s compartment. Finally, he was located in the neighboring Palghar district’s Virar neighborhood.
The inspector said that more investigation is ongoing.
