The 15-player roster for the ODI World Cup 2023 has been released by the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI). Sanju Samson, Shikhar Dhawan, and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal are among the prominent absentees.
The last time Chahal was seen playing was in the T20Is against the West Indies. Chahal has been in and out of the Indian team. Chahal last participated in an ODI in January of this year, but the emergence of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel as batsmen has resulted in the exclusion of the former from the World Cup roster.
Harbhajan Singh, a former World Cup champion and legendary spinner, was shocked by Chahal’s exclusion. Surprise not to see @yuzi_chahal in the World Cup team for Team India, he posted on X, previously Twitter. absolute Match victor
Team India captain Rohit Sharma said at the press conference that the choice to play Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel was solely based on the team’s aim to achieve balance in the lineup.
“That depth (in batting and bowling) was missing from our squad for the last several years, so we need to build it. The No. 9 and No. 8 slots become quite important when discussing batting depth, according to Rohit.
Additionally, Rohit predicted that players like Shardul and Axar will score several runs in the last innings, which may be the difference between winning and losing.
“We saw that we fell short in the backend in the first game here (against Pakistan). We also want tailenders to participate.
“In that game, another 10-15 runs would have made a difference. It is the difference between success and failure. We’ve talked with them and instructed them to play that part at the WC as well,” added Rohit.
