To inspect the situation and discuss the steps for the reopening of the Saudi embassy and general consulate in Iran, a technical team from Saudi Arabia has arrived in the region.
The travel follows the agreements agreed between the two nations in Beijing on the rehabilitation of bilateral relations, according to Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), which cited the Saudi Press Agency.
The Saudi team would visit Tehran during the trip, it was said, to discuss the process for reopening the embassy and assess the circumstances surrounding the reopening of the Saudi consulate general in Mashhad, a city in northeastern Iran.
The team members met with Mehdi Honardoost, director general of ceremonies at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in Tehran after their arrival, it added, and praised the ministry’s staff for their kind welcome and for making arrangements for the delegation’s visit.
Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China all said on March 10 that they had struck an agreement, which calls for the resumption of diplomatic ties and the reopening of embassies and posts within two months.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi colleague Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud announced the restoration of diplomatic ties with immediate effect in a joint statement after their meeting on Thursday in Beijing.
In reaction to assaults on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after the country murdered a Shia preacher, Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in 2016.
