According to a report by Radio Free Asia, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has allegedly ordered a lockdown on Hyesan, a city with a population of more than 200,000, after troops lost 653 assault rifle ammunition on March 7.

What everything was said in the report?
According to media accounts, when the ammo vanished during a military evacuation, Kim Jong Un ordered authorities to scour the whole city for the bullets.

A citizen of Ryanggang, where Hyesan is situated, was also reported by the radio report as stating, “The city… will stay on lockdown until all 653 bullets are retrieved.”

The report said, “They entirely withdrew between February 25 and March 10, although a thorough examination is ongoing due to a loss of ammunition during the evacuation procedure.”

When the troops realised they had misplaced the ammunition during the pullout, they attempted to locate them on their own rather than reporting it, it said.

But when the troops realised they couldn’t discover the bullets on their own, they told the authorities, and as a result, the city was placed under lockdown.

The article said that officials were “lying to sow terror among locals” and that “orders were given to companies, farms, social organisations, and neighbourhood watch units in the province last week to fully participate with the ammunition-related inquiry.”

According to the article, “they sought to put pressure on the locals by pretending that the pullout was a move connected to Kim Jong Un’s protection from reactionary forces.”
