The Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), part of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), and Lizol, the top disinfectant brand in India, collaborated on a study to examine the presence of pathogens and microbes in Indian homes. Numerous types of bacteria were discovered during the investigation on Indian house flooring.
The study team examined the prevalence of germs in Indian homes and discovered that floor spaces in various rooms harbor bacteria that might cause sickness, including Escherichia coli, Moraxella spp., Brevundimonas spp., and Acinetobacter spp. Additionally, the study found that there are about 1000 different species of bacteria and 200 different kinds of viruses on surfaces in our houses. The detected microorganisms are to blame for illnesses like diarrhea as well as ailments including skin, urinary tract, acne, eye, and bloodstream infections.
“The study conducted in partnership with Lizol has brought to light details of germs and pathogens found on floors in different parts of Indian homes,” says Dr. Rakesh Sharma, PhD, Chief Scientist at CSIR-IGIB. Additionally, the bacteria discovered in the research are known to be the cause of several ailments, emphasizing the need of maintaining clean, germ-free environments.
“Lizol, a top disinfection brand with a 130-year history in the world, supports the cause of defending families and keeping them healthy. By analyzing the hazards associated to germs that present in Indian households, this research was commissioned in an effort to create healthier homes. According to Saurabh Jain, Regional Marketing Director, Hygiene, Reckitt-South Asia, “Our goal is to raise awareness and educate Indian families on the advantages of adopting better cleaning and disinfection habits by using specialized cleaning solutions that provide superior germ kill than commonly used solutions, like ordinary phenyls.”
Less than 20% of families in India use a specialist floor cleaner to wipe their floors, according to Jain. The rest instead use detergents or plain water, which are poor at removing dirt and germs. Recent research also indicated that commonly used phenyls were insufficient, leaving 50% of germs left after mopping. Every time you wash your floors, only specialist floor cleansers like Lizol with disinfection actives like benzalkonium chloride give better cleansing & protection from germs with 99.9% germ kill.
“The recently completed study has helped us identify specific germs and pathogens that may be found on floors throughout Indian homes,” says Julie McKinney, PhD, R&D Director, Microbiology and Virology at Reckitt. The investigation found more than 1000 different bacterial and viral species, including E. coli, the most prevalent faecal bacterium. These results emphasize the need of including efficient floor cleaning and disinfection procedures into our everyday routines. At Reckitt, we create products with the aim of shielding users against diseases and bacteria. 99.9% of germs are eliminated by Lizol All-in-One Disinfectant Surface Cleaner.
