According to a senior supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the conflict in Ukraine might continue for decades, with extended stretches of violence separated by truces, according to a report by Russia’s RIA news agency on Thursday.
According to the report, former president Dmitry Medvedev, who serves as vice chairman of Putin’s influential security council, spoke while in Vietnam. Medvedev often makes harsh remarks, and only last month he compared the Ukrainian government to a virus.
According to Medvedev, “This conflict will last a very long time, probably decades.”
“As long as such a power is in place, there will be, say, three years of truce, two years of conflict, and everything will be repeated,” he said, repeating Moscow’s assertion that Ukraine is a Nazi state.
When Russia was beaten in January, Medvedev warned that a nuclear conflict would follow.
