After Haryana and UP, Maharashtra clears proposal for commission for protection of cows
The Maharashtra Cabinet has passed a proposal to set up a cow service commission in order to strictly apply the 2015 law to ban beef as well as take measures to improve the condition of the cattle, said a report on Monday.
The commission named Maharashtra Gau Seva Aayog will administer rearing of livestock and assess which of them are unproductive and rendered unfit for milching, breeding, carrying agricultural works etc. The state government believes that the population of livestock will go up owing to the beef ban.
The Cabinet gave consent to funds of Rs 10 crore for setting up the commission. A draft Bill is likely to be placed before the state Assembly this week. The commission has been made on the lines of panels formed by other BJP-ruled states such as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. It would be a 24-member body headed by chairman, who will be nominated by the state government.
