Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, was fined 12 lakh rupees for bowling slowly during the second innings of Wednesday’s match between CSK (Chennai Super Kings) and RR at the MA Chidambaram stadium. Rajasthan won this game after outlasting Chennai in a close contest by three runs.
“Rajasthan Royals have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday,” the IPL said in a statement.
“Captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs as it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses,” it said.
In a nail-biting match, Jos Buttler (52 off 36) and the spinners shone as Rajastan held off a late assault from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to defeat CSK.
As RR scored a strong 175/8, Buttler was well helped by Devdutt Padikkal (38 off 26), R Ashwin (30 off 22), and Shimron Hetmyer (30 off 18).
The RR spinners then entered the fray, stifled the CSK hitters, and picked up regular wickets in the middle overs until Sandeep Sharma maintained his composure to hold off the charging Dhoni and Jadeja for 21 runs off the last over.
