A car got past security and into the property on Saturday night, closing the airport and canceling flights in the northern German city of Hamburg, according to the German news agency dpa.

According to federal police, an armed guy shot a handgun twice into the air after smashing through a fence with his car. The man’s wife reportedly phoned police earlier about a suspected kidnapping.

Police claimed later that the 35-year-old male had a 4-year-old kid inside the vehicle and that they suspected he was the father and had removed the youngster by force from the mother in a probable custody struggle.

Numerous state and federal police officers were present at the scene and in the area of the car, according to federal police spokesperson Thomas Gerbert, who talked with dpa.

Additionally, police said that the guy was speaking with a psychologist and that because everyone had left the airport, there was no sign that any additional individuals may be hurt.
