On the night of this year’s Republic Day, the President gave his approval for the presentation of 106 Padma awards, including three pair instances (in a duo case, the award is considered as one).
On Wednesday, more than 54 persons received awards, including the Padma Vibhushan (3), Padma Bhushan (4), and Padma Shri (47) awards. The honour would be given to the remaining recipients at a subsequent event.
Among those honoured by the President were former chief minister of Karnataka S M Krishna, renowned entrepreneur Kumar Mangalam Birla, and well-known playback vocalist Suman Kalyanpur.
Several unsung heroes were among the recipients. The Modi administration has been celebrating unsung heroes of the nation with Padma awards ever since it came to office in 2014.
