An old man had a panic attack in an Air India flight. Due to this, there was chaos in the flight for about seven hours. The man was traveling in business class with his wife on a packed Air India flight from Newark to Mumbai. Within seven hours, the victim tried to strangle his wife and screamed loudly. During this, along with his wife, crew members and other passengers also tried a lot but failed. At the same time, a doctor immediately gave a dose of medicine to the victim. After that, the man calmed down somewhere. In the recent past, there have been cases of passengers running out of control on Air India AI international flights. In which this was especially seen between the flights to-from America. However, this was a different case where the passenger experienced an anxiety attack. This Air India flight AI-144 left for Mumbai from Newark at around 12.20 pm Indian time.
According to another passenger present in the flight, an argument started with the attendant over some issue of the victim. After which the person started shouting loudly saying that I have to get off the flight, open the door quickly. After which the crew members and all the passengers were left speechless. When the crew did not do so, the mentally disturbed man started abusing. Passengers present in the flight said that the man’s wife also had to bear the brunt of his anger. When people saw him holding his wife’s neck. He was behaving as if he wanted to strangle his wife. However, the crew and passengers on the spot stopped him from doing so by running. After which the wife of the nervous passenger got so scared that she shifted from business class to economy class for some time.
Doctor came to help the crew
It was not easy for the crew to control the chaos from abuses for nearly seven hours. Two doctors who were in a difficult situation for the crew came forward to help. Even the duty hours of the second batch of the crew had not started. Seeing so much ruckus, those who came in plain clothes to try to save and pacify the passenger. The panicked traveler was restrained by the doctors and given a sedative. The wife told the doctors that the man had left the medicine for anxiety attack, which he had to take after the flight.” Thereafter, the flight proceeded smoothly and landed in Mumbai at around 1 pm on Thursday.
Air India crew worked patiently
“The captain of the Air India flight made an announcement over the public address system to thank the two doctors, Dr Venugopal and Dr Patel, for their services,” said Tonsekar, a passenger on the flight. He said, Air India crew did an extraordinary job. The crew members were Dinesh Gopalakrishnan, Reagan DSA, Vimal Moravala, Sanjana, Ashwini Gandharwar, Prashant Sonar, Baby Jamaluddin and Pallavi Jadhav, who ensured that there was no need to divert the flight. Despite all this, provided timely service to other passengers. Air India should honor them and appreciate them for handling the situation.
