Anti-Extortion Squad Arrests Three In Pune For IPL Betting: Case Registered Against Two Others

In Pune, the Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch conducted a raid and apprehended three individuals involved in betting on the IPL match between Chennai and Delhi Capitals. The arrested individuals have been identified as Wasim Hanif Shaikh (39 years old, residing in Saibabanagar, Kondhwa Khurd), Ikrama Maqsud Mulla (26 years old, residing in Madne Society, Ghorpadi Peth), and Musabin Mehmud Bashaib (35 years old, residing in Somwar Peth).

The police registered a case against Jitesh Mehta from Pune and Akshay Tiwari from Indore. Police Naik Shankar Sampet filed a complaint at Kondhwa Police Station. The incident took place at Dharmashree Signature Society in Saibabanagar, Kondhwa, on Saturday evening.
According to the police, they received information about betting activities related to IPL matches in Kondhwa. Acting on this information, the anti-extortion team reached Dharmashree Signature Society in Kondhwa. The betting on the Chennai Super Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match was being conducted online using various website IDs through mobile phones and laptops. The police apprehended the three individuals present at the location. Items worth Rs. 1,80,000, including five mobile phones, a laptop, and a diary, were seized from them.
It has been discovered that these individuals were previously involved in betting and gambling during IPL 2023, in collusion with Jitesh Mehta and Akshay Tiwari from Indore. Jitesh Mehta is the owner of a pub. Further investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Mohandas Jadhav.
