Do Banks Have Today Off? Banks in the public and private sectors will be closed today, April 4, in observance of Mahavir Jayanti, which is observed in various states, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official bank holiday calendar. The most significant festival for Jains is Mahavir Jayanti, which commemorates the anniversary of the birth of Lord Mahavir. Significantly, state-specific bank holidays vary.

At Mahavir Jayanti, banks in these states were closed.

Banks are closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Lucknow, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on April 4 (Tuesday), Mahavir Jayanti.

Banks in Hyderabad were closed on April 5 (Wednesday), Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birthday.

April bank holidays

Banks will be closed for 15 days in all states in April 2023, including Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and regional holidays.

The month of April will see bank closures for the following events: the closing of yearly accounts; Mahavir Jayanti; Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birthday; Good Friday; Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti; Tamil New Year’s Day; Vishu; Bohag Bihu; Himachal Day; Bengali New Year’s Day (Nababarsha); Shab-l-Qadr; Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan (Eid-Ul-Fitr).

The list of bank holidays is published by the RBI on its main website, https://www.rbi.org.in/. The holidays are divided into three categories by the central bank: holidays covered by the Act on Negotiable Instruments;

Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, Holidays Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and Bank Account Closure Holidays.

The consumers are unlikely to have any issues even if the banks are closed since the bank’s services are accessible online.

April 2023 holidays coming up

The majority of banks are closed on April 14 (Friday) in observance of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba, Vaisakhi, Baisakh, Tamil New Year’s Day, Maha Bisubha Sankranti, Biju Festival, and Buisu Festival. Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Mehalaya, and Himachal Pradesh are the exceptions.

Vishu, Bohag Bihu, Himachal Day, and the Bengali New Year (Nababarsha) all fall on April 15 (Saturday). In Tripura, Assam, Kerala, Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh, banks are closed.

Jammu and Srinagar banks are closed on Tuesday, April 18 (Shab-al-Qadr).

Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Eid), Gaia Puja, and Jumat-ul-Vida all fall on April 21 (Friday).

– Banks are closed in Srinagar, Kerala, Tripura, and Jammu.

Banks are closed on April 22 (Saturday) in observance of Eid-Ul-Fitr, the fourth Saturday of Ramadan.
