According to police, an armed man was detained on Friday in the Kalighat neighborhood of Kolkata close to the home of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
They said that Sheikh Noor Amin attempted to drive a vehicle with a “police” sticker at Banerjee’s home on Harish Chatterjee Street before being apprehended.
The guy was stopped at the intersection of Hazra Road and Harish Chatterjee Street while Banerjee was at home, they said. He was wearing a black coat and tie.
He had a kukri and guns with him. He was discovered to have marijuana and identification cards from many other organizations, including the BSF. He wanted to speak with the CM. When he attempted to enter Harish Chatterjee Street, our police stopped him, according to Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
This is a severe concern since the CM is a Z-category protectee, he said.
According to Goyal, the guy first claimed to be from the city’s Anandapur neighborhood before claiming to be from Paschim Medinipur.
He was being questioned by officers from the Special Task Force (STF), Special Branch, and Kalighat police station, according to another officer.
He said that Amin’s black vehicle had been impounded.
According to a preliminary inquiry, Amin resides in the Paschim Medinipur district’s Aliganj hamlet, which is near the Kotwali police station.
They said that in addition to the Arms Act, a case had been brought against him under many IPC provisions, including those that dealt with criminal conspiracy and posing as a public officer.
Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP’s opposition leader, called for the immediate dismissal of both the police commissioner and the official in charge of the Kalighat police station after expressing worry about the occurrence.
