In Arunachal Pradesh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared its intention to run candidates in each of the state’s 60 assembly districts and two Lok Sabha seats in the general elections scheduled for next year. According to Toko Nikam, general secretary of the AAP state unit, if the party wins the 2024 election in the northeastern state, they will guarantee free water, electricity, world-class education, and access to medical care for up to 10 lakh people.

The contentious Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) of 2014 and the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978 will be repealed, according to Nikam, if the AAP is brought to power.

After the state authorities arrested 40 persons under the APUAPA in connection with a 72-hour bandh call in the state capital this year, protests broke out throughout the northeastern state. The Act, passed in 2014 by the Nabam Tuki-led Congress government in the state, was called for its repeal by numerous organisations.

According to the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978, no one shall use force, inducement, or any other deceptive means to convert or attempt to convert, either directly or indirectly, any individual from one religious faith, nor shall any person aid any such conversion.

In order to end corruption, Nikam promised that the party would dissolve the Arunachal Pradesh State Service Selection Board and handle the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) scandal within six months.

In tribute of Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower in the APPSC paper leakage case, the AAP will also create a “Statue of Honesty,” he added. The examination papers were leaked, according to Gyamar Padung, a candidate in the written test for the position of Assistant Engineer (Civil) that was administered by the APPSC. Padung reported the incident to the Itanagar police station.

On the 26th and 27th of August of last year, more than 400 candidates showed up for the exam. On October 26 of last year, the APPSC paper leak investigation was turned over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Capital Region’s world-class city road, the implementation of a blanket prohibition on out-of-turn promotions in various departments, and establishing all-weather road access to district headquarters are among the party’s top goals, according to Nikam.

The AAP also wants to create a fully operational Lokayukta in the state, build village council courts in accordance with the Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice Regulation, 1945), regularise casual labourers and ALCs (Auxiliary Labour Corps) working in various departments for the past 12 to 20 years, and provide top-notch medical facilities at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).

The party also intends to establish the 3rd and 4th Arunachal Pradesh Armed Police Battalions in order to provide young people with work possibilities. Nikam responded that the party will develop strategies to wisely use the money granted by the federal government and the state tax portion when asked about the financial burden associated with the promises.
