Vice-captain and all-rounder Hardik Pandya discussed the special difficulties and attitude of an all-rounder before of India’s Super Four match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. He said that an all-rounder’s workload in a match is twice or three times more than that of any other player.
Pandya suffered severe back surgery after the 2019 ODI World Cup concluded in England, which hampered his capacity for all-around performance. Prior to the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India, he has returned to form and is a dependable all-rounder for the team thanks to a change in lifestyle and training regimen.
“As an all-arounder, I have a heavier workload than anybody else. I’ll continue to bowl until the team’s next hitter has finished his at-bat and is on his way home. Therefore, all of my managing, pushing, and other activities take place during my practice sessions or pre-camp season, according to Pandya, who spoke to Star Sports.
On game days, Pandya sees his role changing in accordance with the circumstances and demands in a certain setting and trusts himself to do the task. “When the game starts, it is more about what the team needs, and the managerial side hits the ground running. It is more a matter of making realistic decisions about how many overs are required for me. Because it serves no use for me to bowl 10 overs if they are not required, but I will bowl if they are.
Because I have always felt that when we go as believers, when I’m standing there, yeah, my 10 players, my ten brothers are around me, but at the same time I’m alone, I have always believed that I give myself a chance to succeed, which is by reading the game and which is by supporting myself.
He said, “When bowling, I have to put all of my support behind myself since the batsman and the opponent want me to make a mistake. As a hitter, yeah, two people are hitting at the same time, he is battling with me, but there are also eleven others on the ground opposing me, and at the same time, it could be the audience or whatever.
“So what I’ve learned is that you have to believe in yourself and support yourself no matter what happens. You have to think of yourself as the finest in the world. Although it does not ensure your success, it does offer you the tools and the direction you need to strive toward it, so you should essentially believe in yourself.
