Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 championship game, experienced Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik contrasted tennis classic Novak Djokovic with contemporary great Virat Kohli. The 38-year-old went on to elaborate on his claim by stating that when Djokovic began his career, both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were at the top, but that Djokovic arrived and outperformed them numerically and that Kohli also arrived and altered the dynamics.
Virat Kohli scored 122* runs in the Super Four match against Pakistan, helping India achieve 356 runs.
“The career of Kohli is similar to that of Djokovic. When he first began his career, Federer and Nadal were at the top of their game. They attained a level that no other guys in the open era have been able to match, but Djokovic arrived and outperformed them numerically. Similar to how Kohli altered the game’s dynamics and broke records, Karthik praised Virat Kohli.
India was defeated by Bangladesh by six runs in the Super Four match’s final game. Five changes were made by Team India since the match was a rubber-dead one and veteran players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya were not included in the starting XIs.
After the lower-order batsmen helped Bangladesh reach 265/8 after skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy both scored half-centuries, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 2-32 on his debut before the four-man spin attack used the turn and bounce of the pitch to apply the choke on India.
Even though Axar Patel produced a rapid 42 off 34 balls at the end of the innings and Gill scored eight fours and five sixes in a brilliant effort, it was not enough as India was bowled out for 259 in 49.5 overs, with Mustafizur Rahman getting three wickets as Bangladesh won the match.
However, India has already secured their spot in the championship match, which will take place on Sunday, September 17, versus Sri Lanka, the reigning champions.
