Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has raised concerns about the possibility of a third world war, citing Western support for Ukraine as a potential catalyst for nuclear conflict.

Lukashenko’s warning comes as Ukraine marks the first anniversary of the liberation of Bucha, a Kyiv suburb that suffered heavy casualties during a 33-day Russian occupation. According to officials, over 1,400 people were killed, including 37 children.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region continue to rise as Turkey’s parliament approves a bill allowing Finland to join NATO, making it the 31st member of the alliance. This move is seen as a response to Russia’s military buildup along its border with Ukraine.

In addition, US President Biden has called on Russia to release Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been detained in the country. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board has also called for the expulsion of Russia’s ambassador to the United States in response to the journalist’s detention.

The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, with fears of a potential conflict between Russia and the West growing. As the world watches and waits, it is clear that any misstep could have catastrophic consequences for the region and the world at large.
