The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are allegedly connected, which is why the Kolkata Police have opened an official inquiry. After failing to get tickets for the highly anticipated India vs. South Africa match at the Eden Gardens on November 5, a cricket fan filed a complaint.
Following the official filing of the complaint with Maidan Thana, the authorities have requested an answer from CAB representatives.
Tickets for the World Cup are in great demand, and in addition to the India match, Eden Gardens will host the second semifinal on November 16.
Here, it is stated that some BCCI and CAB officials deliberately set aside a substantial portion of tickets intended for the public, making them accessible to black marketers for their own benefit.
“We have complaints and we have started an investigation; we have asked CAB to send their representatives and explain this matter,” reporter DC South Priyobrata Roy said in an interview.
Lately, there have been a lot of arrests related to the illegal ticket sales. Three persons were arrested by the police on Thursday for selling tickets without authorization after they received a tip.
Ankit Agarwal was taken into custody by Kolkata police on Monday for allegedly selling tickets for the India vs. South Africa match. Although Agarwal was selling each ticket for as much as Rs 11,000, the initial cost of the tickets was Rs 2,500 apiece.
Numerous club members have also voiced their displeasure, claiming that despite being life members of the Bengal Cricket Association, they are unable to get seats. One of these members, Arindam Kanti Bose, said, “I am a life member cardholder of the Cricket Association of Bengal for the last 30 years.” “Me and many other members have been denied tickets to the World Cup semifinal and the India-South Africa match. We were informed that, as per a notice posted in Anandbazar Patrika by CAB, all members are required to renew their membership cards by October 24th. However, I don’t read the paper. They have the option to contact us or write us a letter. This is incorrect.
