According to three government officials, the Biden administration has asked for 1,500 soldiers for the U.S.-Mexico border in anticipation of an increase in migrant traffic after the lifting of limitations imposed during the epidemic.
According to two of the officials, the military would be sent down to concentrate on administrative responsibilities so that U.S. Customs and Border Protection could operate in the field. They refused to work in law enforcement. The officials talked to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to publicly discuss the proposal since it had not yet been granted.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, tens of thousands of migrants trying to enter the country through the southern border could not. These limitations will end on May 11. Major adjustments have already been taken by the Biden administration to secure the border in advance.
