Bangalore: Amidst demonstrations over the arrest of a Kar Sevak in a case that dates back more than three decades, Karnataka’s opposition leader, R Ashoka, has been placed under preventive detention.
Because of his suspected role in the rioting after the 1992 destruction of the Babri Masjid, Shrikant Poojari has been placed under arrest.

The BJP has denounced the 31-year-old Shrikant Poojari’s detention, accusing the governing Congress of engaging in “politics of vendetta”.

“The government of Karnataka is consistently demonstrating its anti-Hindu sentiments. “We strongly condemn the reopening of a 31-year-old case in Hubballi yesterday, which resulted in the arrest of a Hindu worker named Srikant Poojari,” said BY Vijayendra, the head of the Karnataka BJP.

In response to the Congress’s arrest of “workers of Hindutva organisations” before the opening of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the BJP has been holding rallies around the state.

Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, however, denied the opposition’s claim that Shrikant Poojari’s detention was motivated by hate speech. “How should the wrongdoers be dealt with? He questioned, “Should we just leave them?”

“We’ve instructed the police to close open cases. Nobody who wasn’t guilty has been detained. We’ll act in compliance with the court’s orders,” he said.

In addition, the BJP attacked the state administration over senior Congressman Hariprasad’s divisive comments.

A potential Godhra-like occurrence in Karnataka in the lead-up to the January 22 dedication ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was stated by Hariprasad on Wednesday.
