The leaders of opposition parties who “created obstacles” in the building of the Ram temple in Ayodhya are not welcome to be invited to the consecration event, which is set for January 22, according to BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Speaking with reporters, Singh also refuted rumors that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might run from Ayodhya in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On the fringes of an event at Rasauli in the Safdarganj neighborhood of northern Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Tuesday night, he told reporters, “The opposition, which created hurdles in the construction of the temple at every step, should not be invited to Ayodhya at all.”

The Uttar Pradesh lawmaker from Kaiserganj added, “These (opposition leaders) are the same people who, while criticizing the BJP, used to say ‘Ramlala, hum ayenge, mandir wahin banayenge lekin tarikh nahi batayenge (we will come, we will build the temple there but will not reveal the date)”.

Reportedly, invitations to the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple have been given to the head of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that a 500-year dream was going to come true. All homes will soon be visited by Lord Ram. All around the nation, the only topics of discussion these days are Lord Ram and the Ram temple. “This is the realization of the last 500 years’ dream,” he said.

The BJP official denied rumors that Modi might run from Ayodhya in the next Lok Sabha elections.

“I don’t believe the prime minister would run for office in the Ayodhya Lok Sabha seat. No political figure in the nation can sail an electoral boat without mentioning Modi. “Modi is the very agenda of today’s election,” he said.

Singh, the former head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), responded to a query on the suspension of the WFI’s executive body by the sports ministry by saying, “I have been the wrestling federation’s president for 12 years. I’m not involved with it anymore. We have chosen Sanjay Singh as our President. Nobody is able to take him out. According to him, no one has the authority to dismiss the new WFI executive body since it was chosen via elections carried out in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders.
