Amid protests by wrestlers demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on allegations of sexual harassment, BJP MP Pritam Munde has said that any complaint made by a woman should be taken into consideration. Munde told reporters in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Wednesday that later the authorities can decide whether the complaint is genuine or not. Olympic and World Championship medalist wrestlers including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat have reportedly demanded the arrest of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Munde said, “I say not as an MP, but as a woman that if such a complaint comes from a woman, then it should be taken into consideration. It should be confirmed.” ” After verification, the officials should decide whether it is fair or unfair. The Lok Sabha member from Beed said, “If cognizance is not taken, it is not welcomed in a democracy.”

Munde said, “The cognizance of this matter is now being taken at the international level. Now if I demand an inquiry committee, it will be a publicity stunt. I hope that action will be taken in this matter.” Wrestlers had recently threatened to immerse their medals in the river Ganga, following which Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday urged them to be patient and have faith in the Supreme Court, the Sports Ministry and the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police has said that the cases filed by the women wrestlers are still under consideration and the status report is being filed before the court. The police said on the matter that it would be against the procedure to say anything before presenting the report in the court. Various political parties have intensified their attacks on the government regarding this issue.
