In a major crackdown on illegal sale of e-cigarettes, the Navi Mumbai police arrested a 24-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the racket. The man, identified as Shrutik Vijay Jadhav, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the police on Thursday evening. He had come to deliver a box containing 130 e-cigarettes to a customer near The Wood Zone, a furniture shop on Palm Beach Road in Nerul. The police seized the box and found that the e-cigarettes were worth Rs 1.3 lakh. The police also interrogated Jadhav and learned that he was part of a network that supplied e-cigarettes to various customers in the city. The police registered a case against Jadhav under Section 4 (1) 7 of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019, which bans the production, manufacture, import, export, transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertisement of e-cigarettes. Jadhav was arrested and taken to the Nerul Police Station for further investigation.
