Australia batting sensation David Warner has recovered from an elbow injury and returned to India to hook up with his teammates for the forthcoming three-match ODI series that begins from Friday in Mumbai. After breaking his elbow in the second Test in Delhi, during which he was also given a concussion diagnosis, and was replaced in the playing XI for the second innings by Matthew Renshaw, Warner took a flight home in the middle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

When stuck in traffic in Mumbai on Tuesday, Warner posted a photo of himself in a vehicle. “About town, “the Aussie captioned the shot which also includes several of his supporters standing alongside, however, from a different car.

Warner failed to get going during the three innings he got to bat in the four-match Test series against India that completed on Monday with the hosts prevailing 2-1 and therefore retaining the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

The ICC World Test Championship final between India and Australia will take place in a few months. Despite his difficulties, Australia has continued to believe in Warner; according to head coach Andrew McDonald, the opener is a part of their WTC strategy.

McDonald said of Warner, “I believe you get through that dialogue, and how each person concludes is always different. “Some people want to go in a certain manner, while others are okay with maybe being eliminated from teams. But, David is now completely integrated into our preparations for the WTC championship, returning for the one-day series (against India), and healing from his injuries. As a result, we can expect to see Dave back in Australian colors on March 17 and take it from there.”

Australia’s usual skipper Pat Cummins will be absent for the ODI series due to his decision to remain at home in the wake of his mother’s passing. Australia’s two Test match skipper has been announced as Steve Smith.
