Despite a decline in use, Meta’s Twitter competitor Threads has surpassed 150 million user sign-ups. On July 5, Meta released Threads for iOS and Android users in 100 countries. It is now one of the most popular free applications on the App Store.
Within seven days of its release, the app topped 150 million downloads globally, claims Data.ai.
“It did so 5.5 times faster than the second-fastest to that point, Niantic’s Pokemon GO, which has held the largest app launch title since it debuted in July 2016,” according to the research.
According to recent data, Threads has grown its user base the most in certain areas, with India leading the pack and contributing around 32% of total downloads.
India is followed by Brazil, which accounts for almost 22% of Threads installations, and the US, which accounts for around 16% of the total.
Mexico, with 8% of downloads, and Japan, with 5%, round out the top five markets for Threads, according to the research.
After its inception, Threads had reached 100 million user sign-ups in only five days. Within two hours after its introduction, the app had 2 million sign-ups, 10 million users within seven hours, and 30 million users within 12 hours.
