Despite Its Projected Growth Rate, India Is Worried About The Outlook For The Global Economy: Sitharaman

Despite a predicted growth rate of the nation’s economy this year of over 6%, UNION Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman remarked that India continues to be worried about the geopolitical environment and the world economy. The world bank group was encouraged by the finance minister to keep concentrating on its goal of creating a “World Free of Poverty.”

“World Bank should continue to work for its vision of ‘A World Free of Poverty’ and seeks to achieve its mission of ‘ending extreme poverty’ and ‘promoting shared prosperity’ in a manner that is inclusive, resilient, and sustainable,” Sitharaman said on Wednesday during the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. She was speaking at the 107th meeting of the Development Committee.

The finance minister emphasised the difficulties facing the world economy and said that recent turmoil in the banking industry in several developed nations has made matters worse and raised budgetary strains.

The availability of food, fuel, and fertiliser is still being strained, putting the security of food and energy sources at risk. According to Sitharaman, this disproportionately affects the poor, the weak, and the marginalized, especially in emerging nations.

A communal, consensus-based, equity-driven, people-centric strategy is urgently needed, the minister said, in order to address the world’s developmental difficulties.

Sitharaman urged during her intervention that the third aim, the global public goods GPG, be given more attention. She also challenged all shareholders and stakeholders in her speech to develop a creative, audacious, and robust strategy to transform the World Bank Group into an organisation that is capable of successfully tackling both current and future problems.

“We look forward to a WBG that deploys innovative ways to mobilise resources, unleashes its full potential as a solutions and knowledge bank, and fully leverages its comparative advantage to build a better world,” said Sitharaman.
