Google has changed the name of its camera app, which was formerly known as Google Camera. The brand-appropriate name for the new version, Pixel Camera, helps the business associate it with the Pixel devices.

The new Pixel Camera app is now available on the Play Store, but it seems that it is only compatible with Android 14—which is now supported by a number of Pixel smartphones, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet. The greater issue, though, is if the new Pixel Camera app will also get additional capabilities. The answer is unambiguously negative, and it seems that Google has just changed the app’s name without doing anything further to attract new users. various devices get various versions of the newly renamed app.

Version 9.0 of the Pixel Camera software is provided for the Pixel 7 Pro model, along with the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, whereas Version 9.1 of the same camera app is provided for the more recent Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models.

It’s interesting to note that the Pixel Camera works with Wear OS wearables that are coupled with Pixel smartphones. Even in this case, the smartwatch must be running Wear OS 3 or a later version. To demonstrate to customers that it can give additional Pixel phones the photographic prowess, it would have been good to see Google add some AI intelligence to the Pixel photographic app.

Many of you may also be curious as to when non-Pixel devices will be allowed to use the renamed camera app. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t yet revealed any intentions to accomplish that, although we do anticipate the modifications to be made to Android as a whole soon.

Earlier this month, the new Pixel 8 series phones were introduced in India and other nations. The new Pixel 8 costs Rs 75,999, while the Pixel 8 Pro is priced in the nation at Rs 1,06,999, which is considerably over a lakh.
