According to sources, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a scientist working for the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) here for giving a Pakistani agent critical information.
An ATS officer said that the scientist was in contact with a “Pakistan Intelligence Operative” agent through video conversations and WhatsApp.
He said, “It was a honeytrap situation.”
The suspect, who worked at a top defense research center, was taken into custody on Wednesday.
According to an ATS announcement, “the scientist provided the details to the enemy country by abusing his position and knowing that the officials secrets in his possession, if obtained by the enemy country, can pose a threat to the security of the country.”
The Kalachowki unit of the ATS in Mumbai has received a complaint for a violation of the relevant Official Secrets Act provisions, and further investigation is ongoing, it said.
