In his virtual speech to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that terrorism has turned into a menace to both regional and global peace and that “decisive action” is required to combat it.

PM Modi made these statements during his speech to the SCO, which was attended by Presidents Xi Jinping of China, Vladimir Putin of Russia, Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, and other world leaders.

“The peace in the area and the world is now threatened by terrorism. To cope with it, immediate action is required, he added, according to the new agency PTI.

“Some nations use cross-border terrorism as an instrument in line with their policy,” he said. SCO must not be afraid to rebuke these nations.

“We must increase our mutual cooperation to combat financing of terrorism,” stated Modi.

He said, “We must unite in the battle against terrorism, in whatever shape or appearance it may take.

At the time, he said that most SCO nations share India’s worries and aspirations over Afghanistan.
Eurasia was another region to which Modi alluded in his address.

“SCO has established itself as a major platform for Eurasia’s peace, prosperity, and growth. Our common legacy is alive and well in India thanks to thousands of years of cultural and interpersonal links with Eurasia, he remarked.

“India has made sustained efforts to take our multifaceted cooperation to new heights,” he said. “India is the chair of the SCO.”

He said that the world’s food, fuel, and fertiliser crises—which are accompanied by debates, conflicts, and epidemics—present a significant challenge for all nations.

Modi also expressed his happiness over Iran being a new member of the SCO.

One of the biggest transregional international organisations, the SCO places a strong emphasis on economic and security issues.

On September 16 of last year, during the Samarkand Summit, India took over as the SCO’s rotating chairman.

The SCO secretariat and SCO RATS (Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure) leaders will also be present in the virtual summit.
