EC Grants NCP Factions A Three-Week Extension To Exchange Documents Purporting To Be Original Party

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s feuding factions were given a three-week extension by the Election Commission on Wednesday to react to its notice about the party’s name and official emblem.

Both groups had asked for an additional four weeks to respond to the Election Commission’s notifications about their claims to the party name and official emblem. One side was headed by Sharad Pawar, and the other by his nephew Ajit Pawar.

On July 27, the poll authority sent notifications to the competing groups, requesting that they exchange the paperwork they had presented to the commission under the pretense of being the legitimate party.

The election panel also received affidavits on July 5 from 40 MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, as well as a resolution from the rebel group members stating that Ajit Pawar was chosen as the NCP leader.

The letter in question was sent on June 30, two days before Ajit Pawar pulled off an incredible coup inside the NCP and was sworn in with eight other ministers as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra.

The faction headed by Sharad Pawar had chosen to hold off on moving the commission until it had given consideration to the allegations made by the breakaway groupings.
