According to authorities, the CBI has arrested an EPFO officer located in Mumbai as well as 13 former Jet Airways workers who paid him bribes to satisfy their provident fund claims.

After an investigation by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) Vigilance discovered suspected fraudulent activities of Machindra Jagannath Bamne, senior social security assistant employed at its regional office in Kandivali(E), the matter was turned over to the CBI.

It was discovered that Bamne got illicit benefits in his and his wife’s bank accounts through several online banking methods from staff members of various businesses in lieu of their claim settlement. 13 workers of the defunct Jet Airways are accused of crediting his and his wife’s accounts with Rs 1.77 lakh.

“This aspect has been confirmed in the investigation by cross-verifying the online credit entries in the accounts of the official and his wife with the corresponding debit entries in the bank accounts of employees of various establishments, whose PF claims were settled by Bamne,” the FIR said.

According to the authorities, the CBI has filed a case against Bamne, his wife, and 13 former Jet Airways workers for criminal conspiracy and violating the Prevention of Corruption Act.
