With the successful train movement on the mainline from the ramp area of the Agra Metro Depot to Taj East Gate Station, a distance of around 3 km, the lengthy wait for the Agra Metro seems to be finally coming to an end.
On the ballasted track at the Agra Metro Depot, low-speed train experiments have been running up to this point. A train traveled to Taj East Gate station for the first time on a ballastless track.
“Today is a historic day for the people of Agra as for the first time train movement was successfully carried out on the 3 km viaduct and all train systems and equipment were tested successfully,” said Sushil Kumar, MD of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). We are firmly dedicated to starting Metro service in Agra as soon as possible. We want to work hard to complete the Agra Metro Project in a timely manner.
According to officials, there won’t be any overhead machinery to hinder the running of Metro trains. Charged third rail that runs parallel to the track will provide power to the train.
The ancient city of Agra’s skyline will be well complemented by the 29.8 kilometer long Metro system.
