Four individuals have been apprehended by the Moga police in Punjab, in collaboration with the state’s Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Bihar Police, for their involvement in a recent incident of robbery and murder in broad daylight.
The crime took place when a group of five robbers forcefully entered ‘Asia Jewellers’ located in Moga city’s Ramganj Mandi area on June 12. In the course of the robbery, the owner of the jewelry store, Parminder Singh, also known as Vicky, was fatally shot. The perpetrators fled the scene with stolen gold.
Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police in Punjab, announced via Twitter that three of the suspects were apprehended in Patna, Bihar, while the fourth was captured in Nanded, Maharashtra. The arrested individuals have a history of criminal activities, with previous cases registered against them in both Punjab and Bihar. The authorities recovered the weapons used by the accused, as well as a licensed revolver belonging to the store owner.
CCTV footage revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 pm when three robbers entered the shop disguised as customers and took seats inside. Shortly thereafter, the remaining two individuals joined them. One of the gang members brandished a homemade weapon and shot the owner, while the other four proceeded to loot jewelry from the store. Despite the pleas of a saleswoman, who begged the culprits not to harm them and to take whatever they wanted, one of the assailants fired another shot. Parminder Singh succumbed to his injuries while being transported from a local hospital to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana.
Parminder Singh is survived by his mother, wife, and two children. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act at the Moga city south police station.
This incident of murder and robbery in broad daylight has sparked significant outrage and anger among the people of Punjab. As a sign of protest and to demand the swift arrest of the culprits, shopkeepers in Moga and Faridkot kept their shops closed.
