The LALBAUGCHA RAJA
The most popular Ganesh statue in Mumbai is called Lalbaugcha Raja, or “King of Lalbaug,” and it is situated in Putlabai Chawl. Every year, thousands of devotees visit the Lalbaugcha Raja at the Lalbaugh market.
The custom began at this location in 1934 when the Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal erected the first idol, which went on to become a famous representation of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Mumbai.
The Lalbaugcha Raja’s celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in 2023 will celebrate 90 years of the holiday’s observance.
