Goa Monsoon knocks, Maharashtra waiting

Share

While North-East India is already experiencing severe rainfall, the southwest monsoon is beginning to knock on the doors of several regions of South India. The people of Maharashtra, including those in Mumbai, the state’s capital, are still waiting for the monsoon rains. The presence of thunder and storms in the area suggests that showers are imminent. The abrupt advent of the monsoon in Goa astonished the locals, and many of them breathed a sigh of relief from the oppressive heat.

Another good thing for Mumbai is that the monsoon has arrived in Goa, and people may now anticipate showers at any moment. However, based on official predictions from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Maharashtra may see monsoon rains by June 11.

“The monsoon is moving along without delay. Senior IMD scientist R K Jenamani predicted on Thursday that it would likely go to Maharashtra over the next two days and cover Mumbai over the next two days. Kerala, Goa, and the North East are now entirely covered by the southwest monsoon as of Saturday. Additionally, several areas of southern Andhra Pradesh, southern Karnataka, and the majority of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Sikkim have experienced monsoon conditions.

The monsoon is anticipated to reach all of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra in the following 48 hours. After May 10, when at least 60% of the meteorological stations in a given state record continuous rainfall of 2.5 mm or more for two straight days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declares the start of the monsoon season. Along with this large increase in rainfall activity, particular parameters for the wind field and outgoing longwave radiation must also be met.
