Google’s Sundar Pichai On Prime Minister Modi’s Plan For A Digital India: “Way Ahead Of Its Time”

On Friday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Digital India, highlighting how it was innovative and has now come to serve as a template for other countries.

This praise came after Pichai and other prominent American IT CEOs met briefly with the Prime Minister in Washington.

His plan for a digital India was far-sighted. I now view it as a model for what other nations want to accomplish. Following up on growing up India’s digital stack is a strategy that other nations are considering, Pichai said following his discussion with Modi.

The US tech giant’s Indian-American executive, who last saw Modi in December, informed him that Google is contributing USD 10 billion to India’s digitization fund.

“We informed the Prime Minister about Google’s USD $10 billion investment in India’s digitalization fund. And we are still making investments via it, particularly in AI-related businesses,” he said.

Pichai also said that Bard, Google’s generative AI chatbot, would soon support additional Indian languages.

He said that Google is establishing a worldwide fin-tech operating center in Gujarat’s Gift City.”Thanks to UPI and Aaddhar, it will solidify India’s leadership in the fintech sector. We’re going to expand it internationally and build on the base,” he said.

According to Arindam Bagchi, spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry, PM Modi encouraged Pichai to investigate other opportunities for cooperation in the areas of cybersecurity, finance, and artificial intelligence.

On the last day of a state visit, the Prime Minister met with US and Indian technology CEOs in Washington on Friday. CEOs included Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Apple’s Tim Cook, and President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Modi met.

The CEOs spoke on the vast prospects and strategies for strengthening institutional collaboration in cutting-edge technology and R&D between the two nations.

Sam Altman of OpenAI, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, and Indian tech heavyweights Mukesh Ambani and Anand Mahindra were also there. Anand Mahindra is the head of the Mahindra Group.
