The “unanimous endorsement” of the crucial role of tourism and culture in sustainable socio-economic growth and prosperity was a “significant milestone” reached during the G20 Leaders’ Summit held here, according to the ministry of tourism on Sunday.
The meeting announced and approved the statement on Saturday.
The importance of the “Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a vehicle for achieving SDGs” was highlighted in the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, the ministry said in a statement.
The summit is evidence of India’s leadership in promoting world cooperation and harmony. It claimed to have seen the confluence of the most powerful people in the world who were brought together by a common vision for the future.
The statement claimed their resolve to working together to address global issues “reaffirms the spirit of global cooperation.”
With the G20 Goa Roadmap detailing the difficulties, aims, possibilities, and suggestions for the tourist industry to meet the objectives of sustainable development, the declaration “provides a new direction for the sector of tourism,” according to the statement.
According to the ministry, the “Goa Roadmap,” the primary output of India’s G20 tourism track, is a trailblazing project that offers a roadmap for sustainable international tourism.
The Goa strategy emphasizes the importance of tourism for society, the economy, and environmental stewardship, it was further said, and is in line with the subject of India’s G20 Presidency.
The roadmap, it said, provides a comprehensive strategy for countries to align their tourism policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. It identifies five interconnected priorities that have been identified and endorsed by the G20 Tourism Working Group: Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management.
In order to find best practices and case studies that are in line with the five priorities of the G20 Goa roadmap, which have been successfully implemented by states, destinations, and industry stakeholders, and can be replicated and scaled up across the country, the Ministry of Tourism is also launching a national competition on “Tourism for Tomorrow,” according to a statement.
On September 27, World Tourism Day, the contest will begin.
According to the announcement, the Ministry of Tourism also plans to promote and develop the Indian cities that will host the G20 gatherings into “global MICE destinations” for both domestic and international gatherings.
“Our resolve is strong, and our dedication is solid. We are in a position to lead the way in promoting environmentally friendly tourist methods that will be imitated all over the globe for years to come, it stated.
