Share

A Hindu celebration called Gudi Padwa is observed predominantly in Maharashtra to signal the start of the Marathi new year. The Marathi calendar states that Gudi Padwa is observed on the first day of the Chaitra month to usher in the new year.

Gudi Padwa will be observed on March 22 this year. Rangoli, a kind of colorful floor decoration, a unique Gudhi flag, public processions, and celebratory meals are used to mark the occasion.

The state’s traditional foods are a necessary part of every Marathi new year celebration. Every family member gathers for a delicious variety of desserts, snacks, and dinners on Gudi Padwa Day.

You may try the following Marathi dishes this Gudi Pawda:

Puran Poli
The popular Maharashtrian holiday of Gudi Pawda, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, and Holi all include this delicious delicacy. This delicious flatbread is filled with a chana dal and green cardamom-flavored jiggery combination. In Marathi, the sweet filling is known as Puran, while the flatbread is called Poli. The puran poli is really nourishing. There may be a few varieties of this delectable cuisine found in the western and southern regions of India. A common addition to puran poli filling is shredded coconut.
Srikhand
Another well-known meal that is adored in the Indian states of Gujarat and Maharashtra is this one. For the thalis offered at festivals, this is a need. Curd, sugar, cardamom, almonds, and saffron are used to make the rich, creamy delicacy known as srikhand. Due to its cooling and refreshing qualities, it is best enjoyed after a meal and is ideal for summer festivals.
Coconut Ladoos
We won’t mind overindulging in a variety of sweets during celebrations. On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, the delicious and surprisingly easy Coconut Laddoos are a necessity in practically every Maharashtrian home. The only ingredients you’ll need to prepare this dessert are condensed milk, sugar, and some shredded coconut. One of these bite-sized balls is never enough; they are little.
Sabudana Vada
One of our favorite snacks is a patty with mashed potatoes, crunchy peanuts, flavorful spices, and fresh herbs that is crispy, soft, savory, and sweet. In Maharashtra and other Central and Western Indian regions, sabudana is often used to make a variety of meals for breakfast and evening snacks. These deep-fried patties are wonderful when eaten warm with coriander chutney.
