Producer of “The Elephant Whisperers,” Guneet Monga, described her “great astonishment” at having her Oscars acceptance speech cut short by music on Friday.
Early on Friday morning, Monga, whose short was directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and won the Oscar Award for Best Documentary Short Film, arrived home with the trophy.
“I am appreciative. This, in my opinion, is a gift. I believe this was jointly expressed by 1.4 billion individuals. As a result, Monga told PTI at the airport, “It’s bizarre.
When the Tamil documentary short won the award, it became the first time an Indian production had done so. Both ladies received the medal, and Gonsalves was the first to speak. She credited “motherland India” for her victory.
The music started playing as soon as Monga approached the podium, signalling the conclusion of their remarks, and the squad was led off stage.
“I was in for a shock when the music interrupted my speech. Holding up the Oscar, Monga stated, “This is India’s first Oscar for an Indian production. I was on stage, but I yelled to the people who were on the ground that this is that.
She said that numerous members of the worldwide cinema community expressed sorrow for what had occurred at the post-ceremony celebration. “Pretty much everyone approached me at the Governors Ball and apologised, ‘We are so sorry, how did you get cut off?’ since I had no idea how the animated short had gotten full time following my address. It was rather unjust, Monga continued.
She said that she wished to thank her husband Sunny Kapoor as well as the production crew for the documentary clip, which included Netflix.
“I can’t believe I was that stunned and disoriented. My heartbeat became quite rapid. I reasoned that I couldn’t have travelled this far and not be heard. I immediately had the need to return and re-deliver my speech on the main stage. I was allowed to deliver my speech, nevertheless, backstage. That was not kind of them to shut us off,” the producer stated.
The film “The Elephant Whisperers,” which is set in the Mudumulai National Park in Tamil Nadu, examines the bond between the elephants Raghu and Amu and their tribal keepers Bomman and Bellie.
Prior to “The Elephant Whisperers,” Monga was executive producer of “Period. End of Sentence,” a 2019 Oscar winner for Best Documentary Short and a US production with an Indian setting.
