Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not included in the 17-member roster of the Indian team for the next Asia Cup, and head selector Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee has come under fire for this decision. The most recent player to criticize selectors for leaving Chahal off the team for the continental event is former famous spinner Harbhajan Singh.
Kuldeep Yadav, who has received support from India, will serve as the team’s primary spinner. All-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja will serve as the team’s other two spin-bowling options.
Harbhajan thinks that Chahal is India’s best spinner and that the nation is overlooking a leg-spinner who has excelled for it in restricted overs.
“Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence is the one thing I think the squad is missing in, in my opinion. a leg-spinner with the ability to sway the ball. In white-ball forms, Chahal is without a doubt India’s best spinner if you’re talking about true spinners. Although his recent performances weren’t great, Harbhajan maintained that he is still a capable bowler on his YouTube channel.
The seasoned player is hoping that Chahal can rejoin India’s team in time for the ODI World Cup in India in October and November.
“I believe that having him on the squad was essential. I wish the doors weren’t locked against him. He should be taken into account for the World Cup since it will be held in India. Chahal has a history of winning games. I can see that his form wasn’t great, so you may have given him a break. But I believe his self-assurance would have persisted if he had been on the squad. The pressure to perform is always there for every player who returns after being benched, according to Harbhajan.
In the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, Chahal played, and he recorded five wickets, including two games without a wicket. On the other side, Kuldeep Yadav claimed 13 victims during the just-completed West Indies white-ball tour.
