Five talukas in Raigad, Maharashtra, saw more than 200 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period, according to an official. According to information provided by the district administration, the district received 164.7 mm of rain in a 24-hour period up to 10 am.
The statistics showed that more than 200 mm of rain fell in Uran, Alibag, Pen, Panvel, and Murud, with Roha receiving the least amount—140.6 mm—in a 24-hour period. According to the official, 24 dams are overflowing and the district’s three main rivers, Kundalika, Amba, and Patalganga, have gone over the danger threshold.
According to him, the Ranivali dam is at 66% of its capacity, Punade is at 81%, Karle is at 68%, and Shrigaon is at 80% of its capacity. According to him, the district’s dams have a combined storage capacity of 68.26 million cubic meters, which as of Friday was at 66.22 lakh cubic meters.
Another official said that on Thursday night, a landslide took place in Tajpur village in Alibag taluka when it was raining. The official said that there was no recorded fatality in the event. The locals have received notifications from the authorities to leave their homes and relocate to a nearby school facility, he added.
The government reports that a total of 341 homes in the district have been damaged as a result of the recent 10-day period of high rainfall. Since the monsoon season started in June, up to 7,469 individuals have been relocated to safer areas. According to the report, the most individuals—2,810—were relocated to Mahad, followed by Roha with 1,351 and Khalapur with 1,039 persons.
