Heavy rain lashed Mumbai on Wednesday and one person was dead when a tree fell in suburban Malad. According to the civic body, 26 incidents of tree falling, 15 incidents of short-circuit and five incidents of collapse/partial collapse of houses have been reported in Mumbai in the last 24 hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain warnings at different places. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, no incident of any major water-logging has been reported in low-lying areas.
Railway officials said suburban trains on Central Railway and Western Railway routes were running normally, though they were delayed by a few minutes as incessant rains caused some problems.
A 38-year-old man was injured when a tree fell on him at Mamledarwadi junction in western suburb of Malad, an official said. The injured person has been identified as Kaushal Doshi. He was taken to Shatabdi Hospital run by the Municipal Corporation, where doctors declared him brought dead, the official said.
According to municipal officials, Mumbai received heavy rains between 8 am and 12 noon on Wednesday. The IMD said that moderate to intense rainfall is likely at isolated places over Mumbai as well as some other coastal districts.
