The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that it would stop printing Rs. 2000 banknotes, but that they will still be accepted as legal cash. Additionally, the RBI has instructed banks to immediately cease printing banknotes with a value of Rs 2000. The RBI said that till September 30, 2023, people would still be able to deposit Rs 2000 banknotes into their bank accounts and/or exchange them for notes of other denominations at any bank branch.
The introduction of Rs 2000 notes in 2016 during the demonetization effort should be noticed. People were required to deposit or exchange these notes before September 30, 2023. People may deposit or swap their Rs 2000 banknotes at their nearby bank branches, according to the RBI.
All banks will still provide the option to deposit money into accounts and exchange them for 2000 yen bills until September 30, 2023. The RBI said in a formal announcement that the exchange facility would be accessible at all 19 of its Regional Offices (ROs) that have Issue Departments1 until September 30, 2023.
