Iran has again hanged three agitators for violent protests against the government last year over the hijab. Even before this, the government of Iran has hanged many protesters. In the latest case, Iran on Friday executed three people accused of violence during last year’s anti-government protests. It took this step despite protests from human rights organizations. Judiciary’s website Mizan reported the execution of the three accused – Majid Kazemi, Saleh Mirhashmi and Saeed Yaghoubi.
Officials said Majid, Saleh and Saeed killed a police officer and two members of the paramilitary Basij group in Isfahan during nationwide anti-government protests in November last year. At the same time, human rights groups said that the three accused were severely tortured in custody, forced to make confessions on television, and that due judicial process was not followed in sentencing them. In Iran last September, massive anti-government protests erupted across the country following the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for allegedly violating a strict Islamic dress code. During this, government forces arrested many protesters.
So far 7 have been hanged for protesting
Iran has so far executed 7 people in connection with anti-government protests. Human rights groups say those sentenced to death were convicted in secret at government security courts and were not even allowed to defend themselves. While the government argues that the accused had confessed to the crime of violence. It is notable here that in September 2022, women in Iran started a vigorous protest against the hijab. The violence and protests escalated after a girl died in police custody.
