Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Nitin Gadkari has taunted the Congress. He said that once a Congress leader advised him to join the Congress, to which he replied that he would rather die by jumping into a well than become a member of that party.

The Road Transport and Highways Minister further claimed that the BJP government in the last nine years has done twice as much work as compared to the 60 years of Congress rule in the country. Addressing a gathering in Maharashtra’s Bhandara to mark the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi government, Gadkari recalled his early days of working for the BJP and talked about the party’s journey. Gadkari also recalled the advice once given by late Congress leader Shrikant Jichkar during this period.

Gadkari said, Jichkar once told me that you are a very good party worker and leader and if you join Congress, you will have a bright future, but I told him that I would rather jump into a well than join Congress. I have full faith in BJP and its ideology and will continue to work for it. Gadkari also lauded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for instilling values in his early days while working for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS.

Talking about the Congress, the minister said that since the formation of the party, it has been divided several times. Gadkari said that during its 60 years of rule, the Congress gave the slogan of ‘garibi hatao’, but did nothing except for personal gains. Gadkari appreciated PM Modi’s vision to make India an economic superpower. He said that the future of the country is very bright under the leadership of PM Modi.
