India has more than 3,000 current cases of COVID-19, with most of them in Kerala and Maharashtra.

On Saturday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in India went over 3,000 and now stands at 3,395. Kerala has the highest number of infections, with 1,336, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi, according to figures released by the Union Health Ministry.

India’s current COVID-19 case count has likely surpassed the 3,000 mark for the first time in more than two years.

The government said on Saturday that four people have died in the country in the last 24 hours, one in Delhi, one in Kerala, one in Karnataka, and one in Uttar Pradesh.

Right now, there are 467 cases in Maharashtra, 375 cases in Delhi, 265 cases in Gujarat, 234 cases in West Bengal, 185 cases in Tamil Nadu, and 117 cases in Uttar Pradesh.

On May 22, there were 257 active cases in the country. It hit 3,395 on Saturday, up from 1,010 on May 26. The numbers show that in the last 24 hours, there have been 685 new cases and four deaths.

An index that tracks COVID-19 cases indicates that the last time the country had more than 3,000 active cases was April 1, 2023, when there were 3,084.

“We’ve been keeping a close eye on things.” “Right now, overall, we should keep an eye on things and be alert, but there is no reason to worry,” Dr. Rajiv Behl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, told PTI.

Four different types of Omicron have been found: LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. The first three are more common in real life, Behl said.

Five people have died in Kerala because of COVID-19. In the meantime, 7 people have died in Maharashtra in January 2025, which is the most of any state in the country. Twenty-two deaths have been reported in all fifty states.

Since January 2025, 1,170 people who had COVID have been either healed or sent home.
